As Yogi Berra once said, “It’s like deja vu all over again!”
Wins at Purdue and at home against Ohio State have convinced the press enough for the Minnesota Golden Gophers to crack the USA Today Coaches men’s basketball poll, coming in at #24 for the week of January 9th, 2017.
This poll further reflects the upward trajectory of the national opinion of the program, as the 32 coaches who contribute to the poll finally put the Gophers in their combined top 25. A quick review of the AP Poll here illustrates the newly acquired national attention the Gophers have obtained on this Monday.
Hopefully, the squad doesn’t rest on their newly acquired laurels. Pitino can’t play the “disrespect card” anymore if he was using that strategy as motivation as the team is now ranked in both national polls. The Gophers will play with the number next to their name away from home against two teams who believe they can knock Minnesota down a peg or two.
They travel to Michigan State this Wednesday with a chance to avenge their only conference loss of the season thus far and then travel to University Park to take on a Penn State team that knocked off Michigan State this past weekend. There’s no rest for the weary in the Big Ten.
