Minnesota Football Recruiting: Alex Reigelsperger commits to Gophers

3-star defensive end from Ohio is verbally committed to Minnesota

Courtney Anderson/University of Minnesota

The Gophers had Alex Reigelsperger on campus this weekend on an unofficial visit. The Ohio native committed last night to Coach Fleck and the Gophers. Instantly Reigelsperger is the highest rated kid who has verbally committed to be a part of the Gopher’s 2018 class.

Very early in the recruiting process, Reigelsperger has committed to Kentucky. This fall he decommitted from the Wildcats and has since decided to row the boat.

Getting to know Alex Reigelsperger

Height: 6’ 3”

Weight: 247 lbs

Other Offers: Kentucky, Pitt, Wisconsin, Arizona, Iowa, Duke, Illinois, Cincy, Louisville, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee, Iowa St, West Virginia and others

His 247 Evaluation had this to say about the young man.

Reigelsperger is a high-effort, edge player that can come off the ball in a hurry. Not the biggest defensive end, he gets it done with quick feet and his intensity on the field. He can rush the passer well, but will need to add weight and strength to hold up against the run in the SEC.

His ESPN Scouts Inc eval has him as a 4-star recruit and said the following about him...

STRENGTHS: Has ideal height and length. Flashes a good get off and has the speed to make plays from the backside. Heady player who puts himself into good position and displays good hand play and placement. Competes on the edge and fights through the whistle. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Needs to fill out ample frame with functional strength. Needs to watch pad level and can give ground when doesn't win with quickness and leverage.... BOTTOM LINE: Reigelsperger is a tall defensive end prospect who will only get better once he adds size and functional strength. He displays the tools to be a well-rounded DE for a Power 5 program.
