It sure looked like Penn State was going to get their big win and get ready for the CFP berth. And then here came the Buckeyes. Sorry James Franklin...enjoy the Fiesta Bowl.
As a reminder I rank the teams both 1-7 in their respective divisions, and then 1-14 overall in the Big Ten.
Here are my Week 7 Big Ten Football Power Rankings;
Big Ten East:
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
J.T. Barrett was insane and led the Buckeyes to a huge win putting them right back in discussion for the College Football Playoff berth . The Buckeyes have to travel to Iowa in what could be a huge let down game, but its a 2:30 kickoff and not a #KinickNightGame so I’m not too worried.
2. Penn State Nittany Lions
James Franklin and the rest of the Nittany Lions are going to be wondering what if for quite some time. Saquon Barkley may have wrapped up the Heisman though...so thats something. Its Pew-Pew Trophy week this week as PSU makes the trip up to east Lansing to play for the Land-Grant Trophy.
3. Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State couldn’t keep the magic going ans lost to Northwestern. Yeesh. But they stay in the three spot because I still think they are better than their Michigan brother. They can really regain some looks if they can pull off the upset and win the Pew-Pew Lasers! Trophy this week over PSU.
4. Michigan Wolverines
Michigan easily took care of Rutgers and may have found a new quarterback right before the Gophers come to town. Great....
5. Maryland Terrapins
It wasn’t pretty, but the Terps got the win over Indiana. They get to go to Rutgers this week in the misfit bowl.
6. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Back to reality after a trip to Michigan. No shock there. Maryland comes to town this week in what could be a winnable game.
7. Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana might be the best 0-fer team in the Big Ten in a while...but it means jack. A close loss to Maryland last week will be a lot uglier against Wisconsin this week.,
Big Ten West
1. Wisconsin Badgers
Somehow Wisconsin only ran for 168 yards last week...but it was plenty against the Illini. Another week another try against Indiana this Saturday.
2. Northwestern Wildcats
Northwestern is starting to look decent. Big win over the Spartans last week puts this safely in this spot. A trip to Nebraska this week to see if they can keep it.
3. Iowa Hawkeyes
We all know what happened last week. Sigh. Ohio State comes in to Iowa City this week to hopefully treat Iowa how they deserve to be treated.
4. Nebraska Cornhuskers
it took until the very end but the Huskers got the win over Purdue at home. Can they string a couple together when Northwestern comes to town?
5. Purdue Boilermakers
Back to where you belong Boilers. But what rights the derailed train better than Illinois coming to town!
6. Minnesota Golden Gophers
Lost Floyd. Maybe win Jug? Probably not.
7. Illinois Fighting Illini
Wisconsin was much nicer to the Illini then I would have predicted. Lets see how Purdue treats them?
