Here’s my own open letter, because I’m shameless about copying IowaGopher’s good ideas.
Coach Fleck-
I’m not a “get off my lawn” person when it comes to uniforms. I’m in favor of the FULL BANANA, I grew to like the “Anthracite” uniforms from the Michigan game in 2015, and I’ll fully admit to envying other college teams for the creativity and flexibility their uniform choices allow. That said, there is one change you need to avoid at all costs.
NO. BLACK. UNIFORMS.
Why? We will look like the Iowa Hawkeyes. We HATE Iowa. Looking like the Hawkeyes would just be...wrong.
Some will tell you it can be done, that the basketball teams have already done it. I would simply point out that:
A) those uniforms were terrible
B) going all black with a football uniform is not the same visual experience as a basketball uniform (because more actual uniform and helmets)
If you’re looking for a “Color Rush” experience for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the right choice for the Gophers is FULL BANANA. If you feel the need to go beyond that to get something to excite recruits, please (PLEASE) consider some other non-traditional color like white, or gray, or purple. At least purple and gold would have us looking like a team from Minnesota (seriously though, no purple).
With that said, I look forward to some new uni’s and elite alternate helmet designs in the near future.
SKI-U-MAH and ROW THE BOAT!
