Minnesota Football: Connor Mayes to transfer

The senior offensive guard started ten games for the Gophers last season

Gopher offensive lineman Connor Mayes, who would be a senior this fall, announced earlier today that he is transferring from Minnesota.

Mayes started the first five games of last season at left guard, before alternating with Vincent Calhoun at right guard for four games after that. He was not in the starting five for the final three games of the regular season, but did receive the starting nod at right guard for the Holiday Bowl against Washington State.

This is the second starting offensive lineman to transfer from the program. Sophomore starting center Tyler Moore announced he was transferring to Oklahoma State back in January. Losing two potential starters will certainly hurt depth along the offensive line, which is already a huge question mark for the Gophers, considering head coach P.J. Fleck has said only six offensive linemen will be healthy enough to compete this spring.
