Earlier this week Minnesota Golden Gophers fans learned that walk-on linebacker Blake Cashman had earned a full scholarship. We also heard that the coaching staff revealed this exciting news in a fun event involving Easter eggs. Today, we get to see exactly what went down and it’s just as fun as you could imagine.
In Coach Fleck’s post-practice media scrum earlier this week, he revealed that the football staff put this together in about a day. They even designed a logo for the event:
It's on!!!!!!! #RTB #HYPRR #SkiUMah pic.twitter.com/OOJFENM1a4
— P.J. Fleck (@Coach_Fleck) April 12, 2017
(NOTE: I expect we’ll get to see logos for a lot of fun team contests, as they’d already done something similar for the intra-team Golden Tee tourney around the Masters)
Is this something new?
Walk on players getting a scholarship from Fleck in a memorable fashion isn’t a new thing. In fact, Fleck is known for these scholly surprise videos. At Western Michigan he did everything from having the walk-on cover an onside kick with his sholly taped to the ball to having Sylvester Stallone announce it to a walk-on via a video board message. It’s part of his culture and something we can look forward to seeing more of in the future.
You have the other videos for us to watch right?
Of course. YouTube is a wonderful thing.
