For those of you who might’ve missed the memo, The Daily Gopher is counting down the Top 10 players on the current football roster. TDG staff members were asked to submit their rankings based on on-field performance and those selections were used to create a composite set of rankings. We’ll be unveiling our Top 10 every couple days over the next few weeks.
Our countdown continues with wide receiver Rashad Still at No. 8.
Junior wideout Rashad Still had a promising freshman season at Minnesota, especially for a player with only two years of experience playing football. In 2015, he hauled in 18 receptions for 194 yards and three touchdowns, including this 52-yard touchdown from Mitch Leidner that had TCF Bank Stadium rocking on Halloween:
And as much as I hate the fade route, this is beautiful, and the type of mismatch the Gophers should be taking advantage of more with a 6’5’’ receiver like Still:
Still suffered a bit of a setback in his sophomore season, missing three games due to a shoulder injury that occurred during the season opener against Oregon State. In spite of that, he finished the season second on the team in receiving yards, with 18 receptions for 349 yards. Although he wasn’t able to find the end zone last season, Still was by far the team’s biggest threat downfield in the vertical passing game, averaging 19.4 yards per reception.
Even with what would appear like ho-hum career numbers after two seasons, Still is without question the Gophers’ top wide receiver heading into the fall. New head coach P.J. Fleck has even said as much, and I can’t wait to see what Still can do in the new offense under coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca and wide receivers coach Matt Simon.
