Jalen Myrick selected by Jacksonville Jaguars in 7th round of 2017 NFL Draft

The fastest Big Ten player in NFL combine history is headed to Jacksonville.

Another year, another Minnesota defensive back taken in the NFL Draft. With the 222nd pick in the 7th round of the draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have taken Gophers cornerback Jalen Myrick and continued the U’s streak of placing DB’s in the league. This is the 4th straight draft where a Minnesota Golden Gophers DB has been drafted.

The 5’10” cornerback was a key part of the Gophers secondary and a weapon on special teams during his career in Minnesota. A lower three star recruit coming out of high school, Myrick took advantage of his lone Power 5 offer and turned it into an NFL dream. Like multiple other Gophers before him, Jalen took advantage of the tutelage of former Minnesota DB’s coach/defensive coordinator Jay Sawvel.

While he’s not the prototypical NFL cornerback in terms of size, his exceptional speed, ability to contribute on special teams, and his coverage skills give him the chance to be successful. Minnesota fans will watch his progress with excitement.

SKI-U-MAH JALEN!
