NCAA Softball Coach’s Poll ranks Minnesota #1!

New, 1 comment

Its too bad the NCAA Softball coaches know a lot less about the game than the NCAA Committee.

Why yes....the Gophers are #1 in the Nation!

The Minnesota Gophers Softball Team is the #1 Team in the country according to the poll released Tuesday morning by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and USA Today. The Gophers received 18 of the 32 first place votes in the poll. The poll is voted on by 32 Division 1 college coaches, one representing each conference.

Minnesota won the Big Ten Tournament last weekend, while former #1 Florida lost in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament to the eventual champion Ole Miss.

Its just another blow to the NCAA Softball Committee who inexcusably did not think that the Gophers deserved one of 16 national seeds for the NCAA Tournament. It’s a shame they think they know more than the coaches who are on the field with these teams every week.

The NCAA Committee released a statement Monday night that our own GoAUpher thoroughly debunked with facts.

Its an amazing accomplishment for this team to rise to the school’s first #1 ranking ever. It’s just a shame that a lot of the luster of the honor was taken away by a panel of administrators who think they are smarter than the coaches.

But, its now time for the Gophers to back up that #1 ranking on the field. They will start to prove the committee wrong Friday afternoon in the Tuscaloosa Regional when they take on Louisiana Tech at 1:30. We will have a full preview of that regional and a Q&A with our Alabama Blog Roll Bama Roll later this week.
