Taco John’s gave RandBall a ridiculous trophy and it’s wonderful

Hi friends! I have big news. The Daily Gopher is no longer a bourbon blog with a Gophers problem. We are a food challenge blog that dabbles in bourbon with a chaser of Minnesota Gophers news on the side. In honor of this change to our #brand and #content, I wanted to draw your attention to this awesome trophy that Taco Johns sent to STrib sportswriter RandBall (or Michael Rand if you’re not into the whole brevity thing).

I’m guessing some of you have some questions, such as:

1) WHY IS THIS A THING?

Short version? RandBall made a bet that he could eat 15 tacos from Taco Johns in one sitting. He won his bet and his friends tweets about the feat got enough attention on Twitter that Taco Johns said they were going to send him something. To really enjoy this story though you have to go over to RandBall’s STrib blog and read his epic account of the event. Here’s a sample:

I honestly didn't know if I could do it. But you don't get 14 tacos into a 15 taco challenge and say, "I'm good." So I persevered. A bite here. A little bit of shell there. Slowly, but surely, it disappeared. "Can we call this one good," I asked the table, with nothing but scraps in the wrapper. Sharkman said sure, as long as I took one more bite of lettuce. Can you even imagine? I would have punched him if I could have moved.

2) Shouldn’t you be talking about the Gophers being ranked as a 4 seed in the Way To Early Bracketology instead of showing us pictures of taco statues?

I state again that we are now a food challenge blog that dabbles in Gophers news. We’ll get to this less important off-season story in due time.

3) Is this the most glorious thing ever?

Unquestionably yes.

4) Can I win one of these?

No, but if you hurry up and complete the challenge in a verified way ASAP you could still win a $50 gift certificate. (Probably? Don’t quote us as we lack all the legal disclaimers and whatnot)

5) How big is the statue?

It’s over a foot tall, which really only makes this whole thing even more glorious.

TL;DR

Taco Johns has an excellent social media/marketing team and there isn’t one near me, something I lament on a semi-regular basis.
