Minnesota Football: Gopher Freshmen One-Step Closer to the Season

Between photoshoots and choosing numbers...the season is almost here

NCAA Football: Holiday Bowl-Minnesota vs Washington State Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Ahh summer. A time for grilling out, going to the beach, and waiting for the new freshmen numbers to be posted on gophersports.com. Well while this weekend hopefully you will be doing a lot of the first two, wait no more for the latter. The numbers are here!

While most numbers won’t mean anything to the general public, they can definitely have meaning to the players. All us fans can do is to see who has what number and irrationally compare them to who wore the number previously. Don’t think that Damarius Travis won’t be checking in to make sure Ken Handy-Holly doesn’t besmirch his #7 next fall.

If you include the walk-ons there are 37 new freshmen on the roster this season. Here are there numbers below:

Additionally, as the Gopher Football Elite Access videos have shown so far this summer, the players all are going through the motions and are getting ready for the upcoming season. The freshmen all sat down for their official headshots that will appear in the football game programs and on the website. You can see the level of detail that the Fleck regime even brings to something like this as all the players are wearing the same Gopher tie and maroon blazer. Continuity and class abound.

Its the summer...but football season will be here sooner than you can imagine.
