The Minnesota Gophers have plenty of questions to answer as they prepare for Coach Fleck’s first season, but “will our running backs be good” is not one of them. A big reason for that is the play of RS Junior Rodney Smith. And it’s that play that put Smith on the watch list for the Maxwell Award.
The Maxwell is given each season to the College Player of the Year. Essentially it’s the 2nd biggest award in college football behind the Heisman. Rodney is going to be a long shot to win it of course, but his presence on the list is a sign of the respect given to his play in the maroon & gold. No matter what, it’s going to be exciting watching him again this season!
