Minnesota Football Recruiting: Unofficial Visitors This Weekend

Football recruiting never ends and the Gophers have a few recruits visiting this weekend

NCAA Football: Middle Tennessee at Minnesota Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Word has it that this staff, at least in this 2018 recruiting cycle, plans to have very few “official” recruiting visits occur during the actual season. They plan to bring a host of players in for official visits after the season in December. More on that later, but the point is that most of the visitors you may seen on the sideline’s during the season will be of the unofficial nature.

So you will often see many of the local 2018 recruits who have already committed. And you will see a few 2019 recruits who want to check out what PJ Fleck and company have to offer before they get into their senior year, when they are allowed official visits.

2019 Unofficial Visitors

Coming to town this weekend are a couple of key 2019 recruits. It is VERY early for these guys, but we all know that when PJ Fleck gets into a room with these guys face-to-face, anything can happen.

QB - Hank Bachmeier

4-star quarterback out of California. Bachmeier is a top 5 pro-style quarterback in the country. He is coming to Minnesota on an unofficial, in part because they have family here and that is part of makes Minnesota a viable option for him. Even this early in the recruiting cycle he has offers from UCLA, Cal, Ole Miss and others. He is visiting Boise State in a couple weeks, but he’ll be here this weekend.

DE - Blake Peterson

Peterson is an end out of Beresford, SD. Iowa State and Minnesota are currently the only 2019 offers, but he took an unofficial to Standford last weekend. And again, many schools don’t make offers till after 2018 signing day. At 6’4”, 240 as a high school junior, Peterson is bigger than some of the defensive ends we are regularly putting on the field today!

2018 Commits

There are quite a few coming, most of them local and names you’ll see most weekends when the Gophers are a home. But there are two from out of state, coming up unofficially.

OT - Jack York

Texas native, offensive lineman and coming up on his own dime to watch his future team.

WR - Erik Gibson

One of my favorite incoming 2018 recruits. Gibson is making the trip from Detroit to solidify his commitment.

What can you do?

  • Rule #1 - NOT TWEETING AT RECRUITS
  • Rule #2 - yell their name when you see them on the sidelines, let them feel the love that way.
  • Rule #3 - see rule #1
