Minnesota Trounced by Purdue

NCAA Basketball: Indiana at Minnesota Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota lost to Purdue 81-47. With the loss, Minnesota is now 2-4 in the Big Ten and 13-6 on the year. While not a mathematical certainty, there is now no chance that the Gophers make the NCAA Tournament.

I’m going to level with y’all. It is not fun to write about this team. For that matter, it’s not fun to watch them play. Without two starters and no bench to speak of, there is little hope of a win against any team, much less Purdue. Murphy, Mason, and McBrayer were pulled with over six minutes left in the game because why risk another injury. If you’re a fan, why risk watching another game?

Notes

As a team, the Gophers shot 29% from the field and 19% from behind the three point line. That’s beyond pathetic. I would also be lying if I didn’t expect similar numbers the rest of the season.

Isaiah Washington was 3-13 from the field and 2-6 from the three point line. As a result of making two three pointers his shooting percentage went up.

Good news! Minnesota had 12 assists and only 9 turnovers, so the assist to turnover ratio was above 1.

Minnesota will next lose to Penn State on Monday.
