Women’s Track and Field Wins Border Battle

Minnesota Women’s Track and Field won the Border Battle against Wisconsin on January 13th. This is the fourth straight win for the Gophers. Minnesota won nine events, six on the track and three in the field. Weight throw champion Kaitlyn Long set a personal best of 22.74 meters, which is a new Gophers’ record and the second best throw in the NCAA this season.

In addition to Long, the Gophers set three other Dual meet records. Madeline Strandemo ran a 4:48:04 in the mile. Ayesha Champagnie jumped 21-06.25 feet in the long jump, and Titania Markland ran a 1:30:51 in the 600m.

Several other Gophers set personal bests at the meet. All three Gophers set career-best marks in the 60m hurdles led by Brieasha Hobbs’ second place finish in 7.60 seconds. Sophia Anderson ran in 7.91 seconds to finish in fourth and Lindsey Smits post an 8.02 to finish fifth. Hobbs also had a PR in the 200m with a time of 24.92 seconds to finish second in that event.

Val Larson’s won the 800m with a PR of 2:13.80 and Abby Lange finished second with a PR of 2:14.24.

This weekend, Minnesota heads to Iowa, for the University of Iowa Larry Wieczorek Invite on Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20.
