Minnesota Basketball: Previewing Iowa

NOT LOOKING GOOD FOLKS

Another game, another loss. That seems to be the status quo these days. Even with Amir Coffey kind of back, the Gophers are listless; mired in a slump of what-could-have-been and without a way out of the current nightmare. It would be sad if it weren’t so predictable.

Losers of six of their last seven (thanks Penn State!), the NCAA Tournament is all but a pipe dream at this point for the Gophers, with the final embarrassing exclamation point stamped last week during a home loss to a bad Northwestern team that ended in a whimper. Minnesota now travels to Iowa, where they’ll vie with the Hawkeyes to see who takes the crown of worst team in the conference.

Oh, and Amir Coffey and Gaston Diedhiou are game-time decisions. Isn’t this fun?

Essentials:

Who are the Gophers playing?

Iowa Hawkeyes (2-8, 11-12)

What time are they playing?

Tues., Jan. 30 @ 8 p.m. CT.

Where are they playing?

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Can I watch the game on TV?

Yes, BTN.

Can I listen to the game on the radio?

Yes, 100.3 KFAN/1130 AM KTLK

Days until next season:

283

Gopher basketball memory that doesn’t suck:

On Nov. 26, 2009, Damian Johnson scored 18 points and held Butler’s Gordon Hayward to just three field goals as the Gophers took down the #10 Bulldogs in the 76 Classic to start the season 4-0.

#GopherHaiku for the game:

Where is the bottom?

Closer than we realize.

At least we have Fran.

Prediction

KenPom likes Iowa by two, 82-80. It’s come to this.

I guess if Coffey plays the Gophers probably win, but I’m still not sure why they don’t just shut him down and get it over with. I’m genuinely curious to see the lineup if Diedhiou is out. There’s literally no one behind him.
