For the third consecutive season I am back with my own personal Big Ten Football Power Poll. Every week I will rank the Big Ten teams how I see them, first by division, and then all fourteen teams in order. Sometimes there is rationality for how I see them ranked, and sometimes its just how I feel at the time. But I promise the rankings will make general sense—no ranking Rutgers #1 or anything stupid like that.
Week eight brought the harboring of Ohio State by the Buckeyes once again. Amazing. Oh yeah...and that trash party happened in Lincoln. Minnesota is dropping fast. Ouch.
.
Big Ten East:
#1 Michigan Wolverines
The Wolverines took care of business in story East Lansing, and coupled with the Buckeyes loss to Purdue Michigan easily takes the top spot in both the east, and in the entire conference. They get a bye this week to stay on top.
#2 Ohio State Buckeyes
Harbored once again, the Buckeyes stay in the #2 spot thanks to the Spartans loss. But things are not good in Columbus. They now get their bye week to think about it this week. Oof.
#3 Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State played tough against the Wolverines, but it was not enough as big brother too out little brother. They get another tough game this week when Purdue comes to town looking to pull another big win.
#4 Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State came off their bye and beat Indiana, but it was not very pretty. But a win is a win. They host Iowa in a huge game this weekend with lots of major bowl implications.
#5 Indiana Hoosiers
Both the Hoosiers and Terps both lost last week, but Indiana gave Penn State a hell of a game while Maryland just rolled over to Iowa. This the Hooisers get the one spot boost before a huge game for both teams Friday night at TCF Bank Stadium.
#6 Maryland Terrapins
The Terps went into Iowa City and got whooped by the Hawkeyes. They have a must win this week when Illinois comes to town...but with the DJ Durkin news maybe breaking in the next day or so?
#7 Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Rutgers kept Northwestern to a 18-15 win. That’s kind of impressive, but might just say more about the Cats than the Scarlet Knights. They enjoy a bye this week,
Big Ten West
#1 Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa took care of the Terps with no issues whatsoever. They easily hang onto the #1 spot with a huge game in Happy Valley this weekend.
#2 Wisconsin Badgers
Illinois tried to make things kind of look interesting, but in the end the Badgers ran away again. The Badgers head to Evanston this Saturday where they have a history of struggling.
#3 Purdue Boilermakers
The Harbor is back. A huge win for Jeff Brohm and the Boilermakers and Purdue is on a major roll. They get another tough task against Michigan State this weekend.
#4 Northwestern Wildcats
Somehow Northwestern almost lost to Rutgers. Unfortunately that was not the worst loss in the conference last week. Can they upset the Badgers this week? Probably not.
#5 Nebraska Cornhuskers
Lets not talk about last Saturday shall we. The Huskers look to make it two in a row in a make-up game against Bethune-Cookman.
#6 Minnesota Golden Gophers
After last Saturday’s debacle in Lincoln the Gophers have pretty much a must win Friday night against Indiana. Lose and its damn near impossible to make a bowl.
#7 Illinois Fighting Illini
Illinois is bad. Is Minnesota worse? That’s for us to find out in two weeks. The Illini head to Maryland this week.
