Thursday November 15th is Give to the Max Day in the State of Minnesota. It’s a day set aside for charitable giving for various causes. It is the biggest giving day of the year for the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Golden Gophers athletic department is looking to make it a big day for their fundraising.
In 2017-18, Gopher Athletics spent more than $12.5 million on student-athlete scholarship costs. Their future goal is to endow all of their scholarships to create a sustainable system of scholarship support that provides an outstanding collegiate experience for generations of Gophers.
So on Thursday the Gophers are trying to raise money for these goals. Minnesota is trying to raise money in several different pots for the athletic department. First is the general Golden Gopher Fund. Their goal is to raise $100,000 on Give to the Max Day.
Secondly, the Gophers are looking to raise money for the Patty Berg Fund for Women’s Sports. They have a goal of raising $25,000 for that scholarship fund. Additionally, if they can raise the $25,000 goal, An alumnae of one of the Gopher women’s teams has committed a gift of $25,000 and is challenging others to match her donation! If they reach their goal, she will give an additional $25,000, creating a 2-1 match.
Next you can donate money towards the Athletes Village Project by purchasing a personalized brick that will be displayed in the Athletes Village courtyard for years to come!
Additionally both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will try and raise funds through their locker sponsorship program. Individuals can give gifts of between $500 and $2,000 to have their name listed above a gopher basketball player’s locker for the season.
One additional benefit to anyone donating to the Gopher athletic department on Give to the Max Day is that all donations will earn you double Gopher Score Points on Thursday.
