Scouting Report

At 6’5’’, Clark certainly has the size, but I am most impressed with his arm strength. Trying to gauge this from a highlight reel is difficult because of the nature of highlight reels, but I’ve heard praise for his ability to throw a variety of different passes, varying the touch and velocity as needed. For those who shudder at the thought of a run-first quarterback, fear not, because Clark is not that type of quarterback. He can certainly extend plays with his legs, but he is very much a pro-style quarterback in the sense that he is comfortable and poised in the pocket.

Potential Impact

The Gophers basically split the 2018 season between freshman quarterbacks Zack Annexstad and Tanner Morgan, so there will almost certainly be a quarterback competition during spring practice and likely into fall camp. Clark enrolls at Minnesota in the spring, so he’ll get a chance to compete. He might be the most talented quarterback of the group, but Annexstad and Morgan both have the edge in terms of experience. We’ll see how it plays out, but I personally expect to see Annexstad or Morgan under center to open the season.
