Scouting Report

Not much has been written about Schad up to this point, but from what I was able to watch of his highlights, he seems to be a three-technique defensive tackle with the versatility to play anywhere on the defensive line. What most stands out to me are his hands, which he uses to consistently shed blockers and get into the backfield on a regular basis. Schad also knows how to finish tackles and drop the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage.

Potential Impact

As a JUCO transfer, Schad will have two years of eligibility remaining at Minnesota. He is one of three defensive tackles signed in this recruiting class and is the marquee name of that group, at least in terms of immediate impact. Schad figures to be part of a rotation at defensive tackle next season that will likely include returning starter O.J. Smith, redshirt senior Royal Silver, and sophomore Jamaal Teague. Keep an eye out for him in the spring.
