Scouting Report
At 5’10’’, 175 lbs., Brown-Stephens doesn’t have eye-popping measurables, and he isn’t what you’d consider a “burner,” running a 4.6 40. But there are other elements of his game that show promise. Brown-Stephens is a polished route runner, able to create separation without having to rely on speed to outrun defenders. He bursts off the line of scrimmage, wastes little movement, and possesses exceptional ball skills. There aren’t a bevy of highlight reel catches on his film, but that is in part a product of the space he is able to create. You’re not going to have to make a lot of contested catches if you’ve found a crease in the coverage.
Potential Impact
For once, the Gophers will have a glut of talent at the wide receiver position. This is new territory for me, so I’m not sure what to expect. Tyler Johnson, Rashod Bateman, Chris Autman-Bell, and Demetrius Douglas all return, with incoming freshman Nnamdi Adim-Madumere likely to be part of the mix as well, since he brings some physical tools to the table that no one else on the roster possesses. Brown-Stephens could very well be in the mix. One thing is for certain: The competition at this position group will be fun to watch for the foreseeable future.
