Minnesota Defeats Rhode Island 91-71

Minnesota defeated Rhode Island 91-71 at Williams Arena. With the win, Minnesota is 11-0 for the third time in program history. The 13th ranked team in the nation had little trouble with the Rams. Kenisha Bell led all scorers with 28 points.

Bell also almost had the 5th triple double in program history. She had nine assists, which really should have been 10 if her teammates could have made a layup on three straight possessions before Bell was pulled, and seven rebounds.

Taiye Bello continues to have double doubles at a clip that is becoming Jordan Murphy like boring in the best way. Bello had 16 points and 15 rebounds.

Destiny Pitts had a putrid shooting night, going 5-14 overall and 2-12 from three point range. She still finished with 19 points on the night. During conference play, Pitts and Bell will need to get on the same page so that both of them can have productive nights instead of alternating.

Rhode Island Daynia La-Force was assessed a technical foul in the second quarter, which our man on the ground gopherguy05 suggests was reasonable given the “friendly” officiating towards Minnesota. La-Force responded by throwing her shoes over the bench. I support all coaches throwing shoes in response to technical fouls. If anything, the punishment for technical fouls should be having to go shoeless for the rest of the game.
