Minnesota defeated Michigan 93-87 at Williams Arena. With the win, the Gophers move to 9-4 in conference play and 20-6 on the season with three games remaining. Carlie Wagner led all Minnesota scorers with 26 points. This is the second time this season the Gophers have beaten a ranked team.
For most of the game, neither team could maintain control. Each team went on multiple scoring runs. Fortunately, Minnesota used an 11-4 run late in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good.
Wagner has passed Laura Coenen to take sole possession of fourth place all time on Minnesota’s scoring list. With three games left in the regular season, she needs just 43 points to become the third all-time leading scorer. In addition to her 26 points, she also added five rebounds and four assists.
Destiny Pitts had yet another double double, her sixth of the season, with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Gadiva Hubbard had 17 points and a season high seven assists.
Minnesota has three more games to play on the season, two of which are against unranked teams. Assuming they are able to win 2 of the next three (Maryland will be a tall task), the Gophers will have played themselves into NCAA Tournament contention.
