Gopher baseball returns from their Texas road trip having finished it off with a series win against a top 10 ranked TCU team.

Here is how the series went for your Maroon and Gold.

Game 1 - 6-3 win

box score

The Gophers opened the series with a solid 6-3 win. Starter Reggie Meyer pitched 6 23 innings allowing just 2 earned runs and leaving the game with a 3-3 tie. Then in the 8th, the Gophers took the lead for good when Cole McDevitt doubled down the LF line, scoring Toby Hanson. They tacked on 2 more runs and Max Meyer notched his 5th save of the season.

Game 2 - 5-4 loss (13 innings)

box score

TCU jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Saturday before the game was rained out and to be resumed as part of a Sunday doubleheader. Then the Gophers began to chip away. Terrin Vavra brought in 2 runs in the 5th on a double, Luke Pettersen singled in a run in the 6th and then Vavra singled in the tying run in the top of the 8th. But TCU scored on an RBI single in the 13th to even the series.

Game 3 - 8-0 win

box score

The series finale was all Minnesota. The Gophers scored one in the 4th, two in the 5th and three in the 6th to open this one up and take the series. Patrick Fredrickson got the start and struck out five Horned Frogs over five innings of shut out pitching. Brett Schulze and Jeff Fasching finished the job to give TCU their first shutout loss of the season. Vavra hit a solo home run to highlight a nice series for junior. He finished 7/13 with 4 RBIs and a HR.

Frogs O’War had their recap of what was a disappointing loss for TCU.

This was the first series win over a ranked opponent in 2 years for the Gophers.

Up next, the Gophers open Big Ten play at Nebraska. As mentioned in an earlier preview, the Gophers have a very favorable Big Ten schedule with this early trip to Lincoln as arguably the most challenging series on the slate. Would be nice to see the momentum from beating TCU carry over into this weekend.
