Minnesota Football: Gophers Add Games Against North Carolina to Schedule in 2023 and 2024

Insert the needless griping about Jerry Kill buyouts here.

The Gophers announced that they have added a home and home against North Carolina to their future schedule. Minnesota will travel to Chapel Hill on September 16th, 2023 and will host the Tar Heels at TCF Bank Stadium on either Thursday August 29th or Saturday August 31st, of 2024.

The Gophers have one other non-conference game scheduled for 2023—a home game on September 9th against Eastern Michigan. This is the first game scheduled for the Gophers in 2024. The Gophers have never faced the Tar Heels in football before.

You may recall that Minnesota was originally scheduled to break this streak a decade earlier before Jerry Kill convinced the U to buy out of the 2013/2014 home & home series. In typical Minnesota fan fashion, that move is still bemoaned by some with a level of annoyance that makes me roll my eyes.

I’m glad all those who felt aggrieved back in 2012 can now be vindicated. Justice has been done and we can all begin our road trip planning immediately.
