Minnesota Baseball: Gophers earn a top 16 seed and will host a Regional

The first Regional host in Minnesota since 2000!

gophersports.com

The goal all along was to host an NCAA Tournament Regional, and the Gophers accomplished that with an impressive 41-13 record, a Big Ten regular season title and the Big Ten Tournament title.

This is a huge accomplishment. Congrats to John Anderson and his squad. They earned it.

Who They Will Face

We don’t know yet, the bracket will be announced on Monday at 11:00 CST.

Multiple projections have Louisville as a 2-seed in the Minneapolis bracket and Kent State as a 4-seed. When it comes to baseball, location and travel are important criteria.

Tickets?

You betcha. Go HERE.

Significance

First time hosting since 2000 and only the 3rd time in the program’s illustrious history.

  • 32nd NCAA Tournament Appearance
  • 24th Big Ten regular season title
  • 10th Big Ten Tournament title

This is a pretty good year for Gopher baseball.

Outlook

Much like in the Big Ten tournament, the Gophers are well-served by having two aces on their staff. Getting to face a 4-seed in game one, is important. And when they face a 2 or 3-seed in the second game, they are able to throw out one of the best “#2-starters” in the country.

This team will still have to hit the ball and defend, but from the standpoint of who is on the mound, getting a 1-seed is huge.

Stay tuned here tomorrow to find out who we will face.
