Minnesota Football Recruiting: JUCO defensive tackle Keonte Schad commits to the Gophers

The Gophers are looking to get bigger and better up the middle with another JUCO defensive tackle

Gopher Sports

It turns out the Minnesota Golden Gophers have landed not one but two JUCO defensive tackles this afternoon, with Iowa Falls defensive tackle Keonte Schad joining Chris Daniels in committing to play for head coach P.J. Fleck and co.

Not all of the recruiting sites have had a chance to evaluate Schad, so he does not yet have a 247 Composite Rating. In high school, he was a versatile athlete for Madison East High School in Wisconsin, where he played defensive end, quarterback, outside linebacker, and offensive line at various points throughout his career. Schad also competed in basketball and baseball. He wasn’t recruited much, if at all, coming out of high school, so he opted to go the JUCO route. In one season at Ellsworth Community College this past fall, he collected 48 total tackles, one sack, and two fumble recoveries.

Scouting Report

Not much has been written about Schad up to this point, but from what I was able to watch of his highlights, he seems to be a three-technique defensive tackle with the versatility to play anywhere on the defensive line. What most stands out to me are his hands, which he uses to consistently shed blockers and get into the backfield on a regular basis. Schad also knows how to finish tackles and drop the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage.
