Minnesota Football Recruiting: JUCO defensive tackle Chris Daniels commits to the Gophers

Head coach P.J. Fleck and co. are bringing in a former Texas Longhorn to shore up the interior defensive line

Gopher Sports

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have received two verbal commitments this afternoon — with more information to come on the second commitment as we await official confirmation — the first of which coming from JUCO defensive tackle Chris Daniels.

Not all of the recruiting sites have had a chance to evaluate Daniels, so he does not yet have a 247 Composite Rating. But coming out of high school, he was a four-star prospect with a composite rating of .9242, according to 247. Daniels transferred from Texas as a redshirt freshman and enrolled at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi. He’ll graduate in December and enroll at Minnesota in the spring, with two years of eligibility left.

247 Sports Scouting Report:

He has the necessary size of an interior defensive line prospect, but has the get off and explosion of a defensive end and that is why colleges are lining up to get his signature. He would look good in multiple defensive fronts and alignments. He also has tremendous closing speed in the open field, which allows him to track down opposing ball carriers quickly and efficiently. His game changing skills are hard to find in a defensive lineman.
