The Gophers have struggled to generate much of a pass rush for quite a while now, but head coach P.J. Fleck has vowed to change that — and a verbal commitment from four-star defensive end Jason Bargy to play for Minnesota is certainly a good start.
Thanks to all the coaches and schools that showed interest & made offers during my recruitment. But i am happy to say that I HAVE OFFICIALLY COMMITTED TO UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA!! #RowTheBoat #Gophers #WeAreMomence @GopherFootball @Coach_Fleck pic.twitter.com/WPpaTidpJY

The Momence (Ill.) product is currently the fifth-ranked defensive end in the country, according to 247 Sports, and a Top 100 overall prospect. Bargy is the second-ranked prospect in the state of Illinois. He’ll be on campus this weekend for a visit with Gophers offensive line commit J.J. Guedet, who seems excited about the news:
We got him!!! 〽️〽️〽️

Bargy is now the top-ranked verbal commitment for this recruiting class and the fourth defensive line commitment for Fleck and co. JUCO defensive tackles Chris Daniels and Keonte Schad committed over the weekend, joining St. Louis (Mo.) defensive end D’Vion Harris.

247 Sports Scouting Report:
High level athlete who has played many positions in high school and excels on the track. Pursues hard and uses that speed to run down plays. Shows the ability to play in space and has rushed from a two-point and has even played some middle linebacker. Has twitch, but also shows some strength and ability to be violent with his hands. Can still get stronger. Main area to concentrate on for him in college is improving technique and adding some go-to pass rush moves in addition to his speed rush. As far as length and natural gifts, he has the goods.
