Minnesota Football Recruiting: Three-star cornerback Solomon Brown commits to the Gophers

Why stop at one verbal commitment when you can have five?

Florida cornerback Solomon Brown is the latest prospect to commit to the Minnesota Golden Gophers during what has turned out to be a fortuitous weekend for head coach P.J. Fleck and his staff. Brown represents the fifth commitment from today alone.

Scouting Report

Brown is as versatile a defensive back as you’re going to find, and I am sure that is part of the appeal for Fleck and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae. He is physical enough to be a safety — and likes to lower the boom — but also possesses the speed and quickness to succeed as a cornerback. I could also see the staff utilizing Brown at the nickel position. And there’s a sort of “lunch pail” mentality apparent from watching his film. There’s one play — and I’m surprised he included it at all — where he misses the tackle but then gets up and ends up chasing down the ball carrier from behind about forty yards down the field.
