Antoine Winfield Jr. wins Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

The sophomore’s 76-yard punt return touchdown earns him Big Ten accolades

NCAA Football: New Mexico State at Minnesota Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Antoine Winfield Jr. sparked the Gopher’s 28-point second quarter with a 76-yard punt return for six points. He broke 5 tackles on the return and eventually earned himself co-Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

After Winfield missed the majority of the 2017 season due to injury, there’s been much debate over whether or not he should be returning punts. But the decision by the coaching staff paid off in week one.

Congrats to Mr. Winfield. Truly and elite player for the Gopher defense AND special teams.
