Minnesota Football: Gophers to hire Rod Chance as cornerbacks coach

Chance was a defensive analyst for Oregon last season

Multiple outlets reported over the weekend that the Minnesota Golden Gophers are set to hire Oregon defensive analyst Rod Chance as their new cornerbacks coach. He would replace former Gophers defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, who departed for his alma mater West Virginia earlier this month after one season with head coach P.J. Fleck at Minnesota.

If the reports of Chance serving as cornerbacks coach are accurate, that could mean defensive assistant Joe Harasymiak, hired back in December, will be the Gophers’ safeties coach. But no official announcement from the university has been made to confirm that.

Prior to coaching at Oregon, Chance was the defensive coordinator at FCS-level Southern Utah for two seasons. His coaching career started with a brief stint as cornerbacks coach for Rhode Island before spending four seasons at Vanderbilt as a defensive quality control assistant.
