For the second time in the last three weeks a Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey player has been named the Big Ten’s #1 Star of the Week. two weeks ago it was goalie Mat Robson taking home the honors. This week it is senior captain Tyler Sheehy who was rewarded for his performance against the Wisconsin Badgers last weekend. Sheehy led the nation in scoring last weekend recording seven points in the Gophers split with the Badgers at Mariucci Arena.

Sheehy had a goal and six assists for Minnesota against Wisconsin. He scored his goal and recorded three assists in Minnesota’s 9-4 win on Friday and then added a pair of assists in the Gophers 4-3 loss on Saturday. He loves to score against the Badgers—he now has 22 career points in 16 games against Bucky.
Sheehy has recorded at least one point in 15 of his last 16 games. His 27 points on the season are just one shy of Rem Pitlick’s 28 for the team lead. His 20 assists leads the Gophers and places him in a tie for fifth nationally.
Sheehy now has 135 points in his Minnesota career which ranks him 41st all-time in the Gopher record books. He currently is the third highest active scorer in the entire NCAA.
Sheehy and the Gophers are currently in third place in the Big Ten standings with 25 points, just one behind second place Notre Dame. However, Notre Dame has a game in hand on the Gophers. Minnesota is three points ahead of Michigan for fourth place, and just four points ahead of a three-way tie for fifth place between Penn State, Michigan State and Wisconsin. The Gophers will host the Wolverines in a huge series for both schools this weekend at Mariucci Arena.
