NCAA Football: Minnesota at Rutgers Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota defeated Rutgers to move to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in Big Ten play.

Let’s be clear, the game was decided as soon as the kickoff happened. Rutgers is a horrific excuse for a football team, and the outcome of the game was a foregone conclusion. Minnesota played down to their competition in the first half, but cleaned up enough to put up 42 points.

The star of this game was Casey O’Brien.

Tanner Morgan had a down game today, finishing 15/28 for 245 and two touchdowns. Morgan could have had much more, but missed on several throws to open receivers.

Rodney Smith had another 100 yard rushing day finishing with 111 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. The Gophers as a team rushed for 198 yards. Mo Ibrahim and Shannon Brooks added 62 yards and 15 yards respectively, with Ibrahim also scoring a touchdown.

Tyler Johnson passed Eric Decker for the most 100 yard receiving games in Minnesota history. Johnson finished with 6 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. His counterpart Rashod Bateman had four receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown. One of those receptions was this.

Antoine Winfield had two interceptions, one of which was a pick 6.

Minnesota takes on Maryland next week.
