Gopher basketball’s Eric Curry injures knee

The junior PF is considered out indefinitely after injuring his right knee in practice.

NCAA Basketball: Iowa at Minnesota Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Basketball got some bad news today. Marcus Fuller of the Star Tribune reported today that Eric Curry suffered an injury to his right knee in practice.

Curry was expected to be the primary backup PF and C in this year’s rotation, with eventually working his way to the starting PF spot being a very strong possibility. Curry had a very promising freshman season but has spent most of the next two seasons recovering from ligament tears on his left knee. But an MRI on Monday showed damage to his right knee.

Details are not fully available and he is currently labeled as “out indefinitely.” But this does not appear to be good news for Curry.

“Obviously, he’s dealt with a lot of injuries,” Pitino said at media day. “He’s been really, really important to our team from a depth standpoint … He knows how to play. You know, he’s a very, very good defender. He’s a very good passer. And for a guy at 6’9” to do that, that’s very valuable.”

This is a pretty big blow to the Gophers and a bigger one to Curry. Wishing a speedy recovery to the young man.
