And we keep rolling along with Gopher hoops. Tonight’s opponent is Butler as part of the Gavitt Tipoff games. A team very much of the same talent caliber as Oklahoma. Can the Gophers go into history Hinkle Fieldhouse and come away with their second win of the season?
KEYS TO A GOPHER WIN
Offensive Flow - I’m not sure this Gopher team has developed any offensive rhythm yet. They know who they want to be, but they haven’t established that identity quit yet.
Defend the Three - This is something of a strength for Minnesota and it needs to come through tonight. Butler has hit 43% and 47% from three in their first two games, as they took down IUPUI and New Orleans respectively. Bring that number significantly down and the offense has a chance to keep up.
Make Threes - This is going to be a key all year. We will take a LOT of threes each and every game. While I personally may think that establishing Oturu inside first might open things up for our three-point shooters, we are currently taking a lot. While not making them very efficiently. Hit 35% from three and this team will be able to hang with most teams.
Butler is pretty talented this year and should be able to beat Minnesota at home. They have not yet been tested on the season but KenPom gives them an 80% chance to win and I won’t argue with that.
Minnesota - 71
Butler - 76
