Minnesota Basketball lands 2021 4 star Treyton Thompson

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MAR 03 Women’s Michigan State at Minnesota

Treyton Thompson, a Top 100 overall recruit from Alexandria, committed to Richard Pitino and the Gophers. Minnesota now has one commit in the 2021 class. Thompson had offers from Iowa, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma among others.

Thompson is an ideal recruit for the Gophers for several reasons. First, he is a long stretch PF who can dribble and has the ability to hit from behind the arc. At 6’10”, he has the height to defend bigger players in the Big Ten, particularly once he bulks up over the next one and a half years. Second, Thompson happens to be a Minnesota kid. This matters not in the grand scheme of things, but should please fans annoyed that the Gophers have not landed enough local recruits. Third, he is a great piece to build around and can help recruit other talent should he be interested.

See below for a highlight film from Thompson matched up against the likely top recruit in the nation Chet Holmgren.
