In a depressing end to the regular season, Minnesota lost to wisconsin. The Gophers opened up the game with a 51 touchdown pass to Rashod Bateman, but struggled to complete drives on offense for the rest of the game. On defense, the Gophers gave up far too many chunk plays, and made Jack Coan look like a substantially better quarterback than he should ever look.
Tanner Morgan had an uncharacteristically poor game. He finished with as many turnovers as touchdowns and a sub 60% completion percentage. One wonders a bit how this game would have looked had Daniel Faalele not left in the first half with an injury. The resulting offensive line reshuffle moved Minnesota’s best guard to right tackle and hindered the running game. It also meant that for much of the game wisconsin’s defensive line won the battle in the trenches.
Rashod Bateman finished with over 100 yards receiving to break the single season receiving record set last year by Tyler Johnson. Tyler Johnson continued his quest to take every career receiving record at Minnesota. He finished with 8 receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown. They are special receivers, and I will miss seeing them play together following the bowl game.
Minnesota finishes the regular season with 10 regular season wins and one trophy. The bitter taste of losing to Wisconsin and Iowa is highly unfortunate to say the least. I am not going to write a piece saying we should be happy about the final performance of the season. I will say that 10 regular season wins with a chance to get to 11 in the bowl game is a solid season.
