Minnesota makes easy work of UC Davis 76-67

Craig Lassing, GopherSports.com

On the day of Janel McCarville’s jersey retirement, the Gophers defeated UC Davis 76-67. Destiny Pitts and Gadiva Hubbard each scored over twenty points and Minnesota improved to 9-1 on the season.

Minnesota slacked off a bit at the end of the first quarter to lead 18-17 before putting down the gas via a 17-8 stretch to close out the first half. The second half was more of the same before a lack of intensity let UC-Davis cut the lead to 4 with 31 seconds to go. Destiny Pitts then made four free throws to put the game away.

Pitts had 22 points and nine rebounds. The junior made three shots from behind the arc. Gadiva Hubbard, the missing link last year, has had a solid beginning of the season. Her 24 points led all scorers, and she added five rebounds and two assists. Taiye Bello just missed another double double with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Highlights of the game are below.
