Gopher Sports: Non-Revenue Weekend Preview

We didn’t get to our weekly non-rev review this week due to time constraints, but here is a preview of what Gophers teams are where and how you can try and keep track of them this weekend!

Gopher Women Swimming and Diving:

The Gophers are at the Big Ten Championship Meet this weekend in Bloomington, Indiana. The meet began on Wednesday and saw the Gophers 200 Medley Relay team of Emily Cook, Lindsey Kozelsky, Tevyn Waddell and Zoe Avestruz take fifth place in a time of 1:36.22. Later in the evening Mackenzie Padington, Chantal Nack, Waddell and Avestruz led the Gophers 800 Freestyle Relay team to a second place finish in 7:00.10. Both performances also lowered their “A” qualification times and they automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas in March.

On the second day of competition on Thursday the Gophers got their first title of the meet when Nack won the 500 free in 4:36:55. Padington took second in the event as well. Sarah Bacon also took home second place in the 1-meter diving competition for the Gophers. Additionally the 400 Medley Relay Team of Emily Cook, Lindsey Kozelsky, Tevyn Waddell and Nack notched a fourth-place finish and secured themselves a spot at the NCAA Championships with their ‘A’ cut time of 3:32.16.

Minnesota sits in fourth place through two of four days of competition. Days three and four of the competition can be streamed on BTN + ($$) beginning at 5:30 Friday evening. The final evening of finals can be viewed on BTN beginning at 5:30 on Saturday.

Gopher Track and Field:

The Gophers Track and Field Teams will participate in the Big Ten Indoor Championships this weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Competetion will begin at 9AM both Friday and Saturday, The meet will stream live on BTN Plus ($$) Live scoring of the meet can be found HERE.

The Gopher women will try and defend their team title they won in 2018 while Kaitlin Long will try and defend her weight throw championship.

Gopher Women’s Gymnastics:

The #14 ranked Gophers improved to 5-0 in the Big Ten regular season in the Big Ten with a win over Maryland last weekend at the Pav. This weekend the Gophers head to the Big Five meet held in Toledo, Ohio on Saturday. The Gophers will face the other four top schools in the conference with Big Ten rivals #8 Michigan, #22 Ohio State, Illinois, and Rutgers all competing. With a win the Gophers would take home the Big Ten Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2016. The meet will begin at 6:20 PM Saturday and can be streamed on www.flogymnastics ($$). Gopher Softball:

The Gophers will be back in action this weekend where their 2017 season came to a close. The Gophers will participate in the Easton Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend. The Gophers will play five games beginning Friday morning when they play Louisiana-Monroe. The Gophers tough schedule continues as their next two games will be against the host #6 Alabama. The tide knocked the Gophers out of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on the same field they will play on at 6PM Friday and 4PM Saturday. The Gophers will complete their weekend with a second matchup against Louisiana-Monroe at 6PM Saturday and end with a game against Missouri State at 10AM Sunday.

Both of the Gophers games against Alabama will air live on the SEC Network and can be streamed on WatchESPN.

Gopher Baseball:

After opening their season with a 1-3 weekend last weekend in Surprise, Arizona the Gophers once again head south this time to Dallas, Texas. Minnesota will face Dallas Baptist in a three game series on their home field beginning on Friday at 6:30 PM, followed by Saturday at 2PM and Sunday at 1PM. All three games can be streamed for free HERE

Gopher Men’s Gymnastics:

The #4 Gophers are fresh off of a weekend off and will head to Lincoln on Saturday to face the #8 Nebraska Cornhuskers and the #18 Illinois-Chicago Flames in a tri-meet. It will be the second time this season the Gophers have faced off against the Huskers and the third time against the Flames. The meet will begin at 2PM Saturday and can be streamed for free HERE

Gopher Women’s Golf:

The Gophers took 12th place at the Moon Invitational in Melbourne, Florida last week and will head to the opposite coast this weekend when they will take place in The Gold Rush Tournament at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, California. The three day tournament begins Sunday and runs through Tuesday. Live scoring of the event can be found HERE.

Gopher Women’s Tennis:

The Gophers will be back in action with two matches in Madison, Wisconsin this weekend. The Gophers will play Utah at Noon on Saturday before taking on the host Wisconsin Badgers in their Big Ten opener at 1PM on Sunday. Live video of the match against the Badgers on Sunday can be viewed HERE.

The Gophers will look to improve after being swept in a pair of matches last weekend in Memphis to Missouri and Memphis.
