On the same night that the Minnesota Golden Gophers’ men’s basketball team upset Purdue to advance to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament, head football coach P.J. Fleck has forced them to share some of the spotlight, earning a verbal commitment from Kansas running back prospect Ky Thomas while on campus for an unofficial visit.
I want to thank all the schools who gave me the opportunity to play at the next level. Big thanks to the city of Topeka, all my coaches and a special thanks to my family for always being there. I’m 100% Committed to the University Of Minnesota!!! #RTB pic.twitter.com/aQ0UR0sQE8

Scouting Report
Thomas has been playing varsity football since he was a freshman, amassing more than 3,000 yards combined over the last three seasons. As far as his style of play, I’ve heard at least one person compare him to Shannon Brooks. He possesses good vision and balance, but what sets him apart as a runner is his lower body strength. Because of his compact build, defenders seem to underestimate his strength and shiftiness, making it a challenge for them to bring him down. I wouldn’t say he has elite speed, but I think he has the necessary skill set to compensate for that.
