The long dark of the college offseason gathers, and now our watch begins. But fear not. It will end soon enough. In fact...

The North Remembers

Unless you’ve been living under some kind of rock, you are aware that Minnesota cruised right past Georgia 8-1 and have now qualified for only the second ever NCAA Super Regional in school history. The Gophers will take on LSU on Friday, and for the first time ever, Minnesota will host the Super Regional.

It was another game, another stellar pitching effort from Amber Fiser. She tossed a complete game and dominated the Bulldogs. Most importantly, she helped the Gophers respond when the pressure was on, avoiding the disappointment of NCAA Regionals of the past. Now Minnesota gets to prove—again—that great softball exists north of the Mason-Dixon line.

The Mountain that Rides

As noted above, we’re exactly 100 days from kickoff! The excitement is big, but not as big as the Gophers’ right tackle Daniel Faalele, who may be the biggest dude in college football right now. If you do nothing else today, at least read this excellent feature on Faalele.

Actually, no. Save the reading for some other time. Just watch this instead:

Long Live the King!

The Minnesota Timberwolves have named Ryan Saunders their new head coach, formally removing the interim tag. The team finalized a multi-year contract yesterday, making Saunders the youngest head coach inthe NBA.

Timberwolves fans are excited, but also have so many questions.
