Minnesota Football Recruiting: Three-star DT Ali Saad commits to the Gophers

The Gophers have reeled in an athletic defensive tackle out of Ohio

Gopher Sports

The last of head coach P.J. Fleck’s recent hat trick to commit to play for the Minnesota Golden Gophers is Ohio defensive tackle Ali Saad.

Height: 6’4”
Weight: 255

Power 5 Scholarship Offers: Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Northwestern, and Rutgers

Scouting Report

Speed is what makes Saad so dangerous. He is quick off the ball and frequently in the offensive backfield. Saad is very polished in terms of technique, both in terms of his feet and hands. But for an interior defensive lineman, he is undersized. If Saad can add strength in the weight and maintain his athleticism, that would afford Fleck and defensive line Jim Panagos some flexibility in how they can utilize him. One interesting note: Saad is 16 years old, so he is a full year behind the rest of his classmates in terms of his physical development.
