Head coach P.J. Fleck and the Minnesota Golden Gophers were able to stem the tide of recent decommitments and get back in the win column on the recruiting trail, nabbing a verbal commitment from Tennessee tight end Austin Henderson yesterday evening.

If you couldn’t already tell from his measurables, Henderson has a big frame. What makes him stand out, aside from his size, is the enviable athleticism that he pairs with that frame. Fleck and tight ends coach Clay Patterson seem to covet versatility in their tight ends, valuing players who can have catch and block or at least have the ability to develop or improve one or the other. Physically, Henderson looks the part and has the right combination of size, length, and athleticism. but he’ll need to develop more consistency in his run blocking to be the complete package.

Regarding the main photo: I have not yet settled on a permanent new photo for the commitment posts. This is simply a placeholder in the interim. But the “Fleck with an oar” photo has been retired, for now. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this transitional period.
