Minnesota Football vs. South Dakota State Jackrabbits: Staff Predictions

We predict excellent things for the first game of 2019.

Welcome to a new year of crystal ball prognostication everyone! I for one am extremely excited to be wrong on a regular basis when it comes to predicting what the Gophers will do each and every week. This week, we of course pick how Minnesota will fare against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

This week’s thoughts

Blake Ruane: Too close for comfort, because South Dakota State is a good team, albeit a good FCS team. But Minnesota prevails.

GoAUpher: SDSU is a good FCS team. I hope they make NDSU fans very sad this year. They will not beat Minnesota.

gopherguy05: The Minnesota offense should have no trouble putting up points on this team, but SDSU has a good O as well. This may be a test to see just where the Gopher D is week 1.

Gopher Nation: Andy has major angst at halftime when we miss a FG to only be up 3. But we win the third quarter and use 1 game for the true freshmen who will maintain redshirt eligibility.

HipsterGopher: Matching the score from the 11/11/1905 game against South Dakota St. NOTE: My bit for guessing the scores this year will be to match them up with previous Minnesota games. I’m going to be extremely correct on all of these.

mowe0018: I have to imagine that this will proceed similarly to the first game of the season last year. Relatively strong performance, won’t really tell us anything about the rest of the season. Please avoid injuries and suspensions.

UStreet: Unlike a previous coach, Fleck has not had difficulty defeating low ranked competition. Nothing changes on Thursday.

wildcat00: SDSU is allegedly a contender for the FCS title. The Gophers could get a challenge in the first half, but will definitely win the game.

White Speed Receiver: Please click here. 1) Let’s compare that DL weight to the right side of our OL. 2) Their biggest CB is smaller than Bateman, who isn’t large.

zipsofakron: People get restless after SDSU scores first and the Gophers go three and out. But then everyone shows their true colors and we rock out to DJ Kool before the 4th quarter with the game in tow.

Season “record” so far

STARTING OUT PERFECT!
