Minnesota football has played 45 games against teams from the Dakotas since 1898. If the Gophers were kicking off the 2019 season against UND the 20 games the teams have faced each other would be too many to review, however SDSU has only traveled to Minneapolis seven times, making this much easier.
November 14, 2009 Gophers victory over SDSU 16 - 13
The 4th win in brand new TCF Bank Stadium, after a bad offensive game, the Gophers revived four South Dakota turnovers, scored on one of them, and the final take away setting up the game winning Eric Ellestad field goal.
September 30, 1933 Gophers victory over SDSU 19 - 6
Francis “Pug” Lund scored all 3 Gopher touchdowns as well as punting, passing, blocking, and playing a great defensive game. I love Pug.

October 1, 1932 Gophers victory over SDSU 12 - 0
Bernie Bierman’s first game coaching the Gophers. The supposed star coming into the season Myron “My” Ubl went into the hopsital and before the game was reportedly ‘fighting for his life’ (he’d be fine but wouldn’t play again). The game was also a dud, with the score of only 12-0, had sports writers gnashing their teeth over the slow start to Bernie’s tenure.

September 27, 1930 Gophers victory over SDSU 48 - 0
Not a great first season for coach Fritz Crisler, who only won 3 games while beating two teams from South Dakota (Minnesota also beat South Dakota 59-0).
October 13, 1917 Gophers victory over SDSU 64 - 0
With only 3 returning starters from 1916 due to our boys enlisting, no one was sure what would happen when the 1917 season started. A 64 to zip victory boosted morale around the state. Two of the new half backs scored 3 touchdowns apiece.

October 7, 1916 Gophers victory over SDSU 41 - 7
Only a single loss in 1916 kept the Gophers from a national title. Losing to Illinois turned this year into only a pretty good season. The schedule was favorable playing South Dakota, North Dakota, and South Dakota St. For the SDSU game the Gophers were without All American Bert Baston who was injured during practice earlier in the week.

November 11, 1905 Gophers victory over SDSU 81 - 0
The Minneapolis Tribune newspaper describes this contest as “the most uninteresting game ever played at Northrop”. Seven different Gophers scored multiple touchdowns and Cutting the left back/kicker converted 11 kicks.

Well here’s hoping for the ‘most uninteresting game ever played at TCF Bank Stadium’ and another 81 - 0 victory.
