New food offerings at TCF Bank Stadium for it’s 10th Anniversary

Here is what you can get less than three weeks from now!

We have 15 new food options at TCF Bank Stadium in 2019. The 10th anniversary of the Gophers home stadium is bringing out quite a few new foods to consume while you watch Minnesota Golden Gophers football this fall. Both Gophernation and Gopherguy05 were at the tasting event on Thursday and will tell you what they liked and didn’t like. Below are our combined thoughts on the new offerings.

Burrito Bowl

Where can I find this: Northern Tacos
What is it: White rice, chicken abodo, pico, guac, sour cream, lettuce, shredded cheese

This may have been my favorite dish of the day. The chicken was a little spicy and there were several toppings one could pick and choose from for their burrito bowl. It was a classic burrito bowl like you would see at any of the chain restaurants. But they are popular and when done well like this one was should be a big seller.

Hormel Fontanini Brat

Where can I find this: Goldy’s Grill
What is this: New Italian brat from Hormel

The brat was delicious and I loved the grilled onions & peppers. The burrito bowl may have been my favorite, but this is probably what I’d most likely pay for. The brat was great, and the Italian flavor was perfect...not too spicy but not bland. I’d eat this repeatedly.

Cheese Curd Burger

Where can I find this: Flat Top Gourmet Burgers
What is this: 12 lb beef patty, state fair cheese curds, gold North Carolina BBQ sauce, lettuce & onion

First of all, I think we should all boycott cheese. Why? Cause I hate Wisconsin. I’d boycott pork as a protest of Iowa, but bacon is just too good.

GopherGuy likes to rip the non-cheese eaters plenty, but I’m right on this one. It wasn’t great. Now if you get one really fresh off the griddle/out of the fryer then it might be really good, but the ones we tried were nothing special at all.

Chicken Tender Grilled Cheese

Where can I find this: Flat Top Gourmet Burgers
What is this: Bare fresh chicken tenders, pepper jack cheese, Texas toast, arugula, bacon jam or avocado mayo.

The bacon jam AND the avocado mayo are both really good. The sandwhich itself was fine. I’ve had similar sandwiches that were really good, but this was just fine. Not awful, not great.

Sidewinder Fry Nachos

Where can I find this: Flat Top Gourmet Burgers
What is this: Cone of sidewinder fries, cheese, bacon bits

These fries, just on their own, are outstanding. A little bit of spice and salt...so well done. These come with the chicken tenders as well and they are excellent. Bacon makes everything better and the cheese is your classic nacho cheese you either love or hate. But I’d eat them again.

Elite Chicken Tenders, Sidewinder Fries

Where can I find this: Flat Top Gourmet Burgers
What is this: Bare fresh chicken tenders, sidewinder fries, dipping sauce

They say that the chicken tenders were special because it’s all breast meat not rib meat or other meat. They tasted good. I don’t know if they tasted more elite than the regular chicken tenders. The fries are damn good as we have covered already.

Foot Long Philly Cheese Steak Dog

Where can I find this: Relish Gourmet Dogs & Brats
What is this: Shaved steak, foot long hot dog, fresh grilled peppers & onions, cheese sauce

It was good. The dog is fine, the cheese steak part is fine. If you like both aspects its a fine dish.

Foot Long Mac & Cheese Dog

Where can I find this: Relish Gourmet Dogs & Brats
What is this: Foot long hot dog, house made mac & cheese, bacon bits

This was good. The dog was good, the mac and cheese was good, bacon was good. Put them all together and its triple good. And at least today, they were not chincy on the bacon bits! :)

DESSERTS...GIVE ME ALL THE DESSERTS!!

H.Y.P.R.R. Cupcakes & Cookies

Where can I find this: Scoop’d

There was a caramel corn cupcake that was good, and a chocolate one. As the U food director said...they called these H.Y.P.R.R because their job is to make your kids hyper. These will do the trick well.

Edible Cookie Dough

Where can I find this: Scoop’d
What is this: cookie dough on an ice cream cone with a cherry on top.

This was a nice hit. Better than most of the cookie dough I’ve tried recently. If the price point isn’t too crazy I expect this to be a hit. Not nearly as cold as a dilly bar on a cold fall Saturday, but super yummy.

The following items are only in the DQ Club Room. While some of these are quite tasty, not all of us will get a chance to taste them.

Hormel Fontanini Brat with Pierogi

Where can I find this: DQ Club Room

It’s the same good brat as before...but they added more stuff to it with the pierogi and some kind of sour cream sauce. I’d just eat the plain brat myself.

Poutine Dog

Where can I find this: DQ Club Room

This was just ok. The gravy on the dog actually really worked well, but when I tasted it, it was weird with a hot dog, fries and gravy and a cold just out of the fridge cheese curd. If the curds were at least room temp it might be better.

Chicago Dog

Where can I find this: DQ Club Room

It’s a classic Chicago Dog with all the required toppings. Sure...if you are into that thing go for it.

Foot Long Chili Cheese Dog

Where can I find this: DQ Club Room

Now this was a winner. Nice chili, good dog, cheese on top. A classic but well executed. It will be a mess, but a delicious mess.

Smokey Vegan Carrot Dog

Where can I find this: DQ Club Room

It’s not nearly as bad as all of you thought it would be when you read the name. The carrots are marinated and then there is a pickled onion something or other along with a slightly spicy sauce. It’s not my top choice but I can see how those who are vegetarians could find this a decent option.

OUR TOP THREE BITES OF THE DAY

GopherNation

  1. Burrito Bowl. Chipotle ain’t got nothing on this.
  2. Hormel Fontanini Brat. Forget the tailgate, save your cash for this in the stadium. Can we get these in the pressbox please?
  3. Footlong Chili Cheese Dog. I don’t need cheese personally, but this was something I really enjoyed.

Honorable Mention: Footlong Chili Cheese Dog. I don’t need cheese personally, but this was something I really enjoye

Gopherguy05

  1. Hormel Fontanini Brat. Tasty. I’d love to see if they make them to sell in stores because this would be a perfect tailgate sausage.
  2. Burrito Bowl. Not flashy or special, but well done and filling.
  3. Edible cookie dough. Sweet but not overbearing. Pricepoint will be key to it’s success.

Honorable mention; Those sidewinder fries are pretty tasty. You could use them as a base for a lot of fun things in the future...
