Minnesota Football: Gophers in the NFL Week 7

The Buccaneers duo shines again and we have a sparking NFL debut

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Week 7 of the NFL saw a pair of Buccaneer rookies keep impressing and the NFL debut of Kamal Martin show why the Packers are so high on him. And more...of course! Here is our recap of how the former Minnesota Golden Gophers performed in Week 7 in the NFL and a look ahead to Week 8.

Maxx Williams— Tight End— Arizona Cardinals

Week 7 vs Seattle Seahawks

Week 8 Bye

Maxx missed his sixth game in a row with an ankle injury. The hope is still that he can come off of IR after the Cardinal’s bye this week and be ready for Week 9.

De’Vondre Campbell—Linebacker—Arizona Cardinals

Week 7 vs Seattle Seahawks

Week 8 Bye

Campbell played all 84 defensive snaps in the Cardinals OT thrilling win over Seattle on Sunday night. He recorded seven solo tackles and a pair of assisted tackles in the process.

Chris Streveler-QB-Arizona Cardinals

Week 7 vs Seattle Seahawks

Week 8 Bye

Streveler watched Kyler Murray tear up the Seahawks from the bench once again.

Eric Murray-Safety Houston Texans

Week 7 vs Green Bay Packers

Week 8 Bye

Murray played all 62 defensive snaps for the Texans and recorded four solo tackles and two assisted tackles in Houstons loss to Green Bay.

Damien Wilson—Linebacker—Kansas City Chiefs

Week 7 @ Denver Broncos

Week 8 vs New York Jets

Wilson had another typical game where he played 53 defensive snaps and was all around the ball. He recorded six solo tackles and added a pair of assisted ones in KC’s blowout win over Denver. He and KC will host fellow Gopher Blake Cashman’s 0-7 Jets this Sunday.

Blake Cashman—Linebacker—New York Jets

Week 7 vs Buffalo Bills

Week 8 @ Kansas City Chiefs

Cashman played 13 snaps mainly on special teams in his second game returning from a groin injury. He recorded two tackles and an assisted one in the Jets loss.

Antoine Winfield Jr. —Safety—Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Week 7 @ Las Vegas Raiders

Week 8 @ New York Giants (MNF)

Winfield played 64 defensive snaps in the Bucs win over the Raiders recording one solo tackle and one assisted tackle. Oh yeah and he also made Derek Carr his first NFL victim as Winfield recorded his first career NFL interception and returned it sixteen yards!

Tyler Johnson-WR-Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Week 7 @ Las Vegas Raiders

Week 8 @ New York Giants (MNF)

Tyler Johnson played 29 snaps in the win in Las Vegas and caught both passes thrown to him by Tom Brady for a total of four yards. But, one of those passes went for Johnson’s second career NFL TD on a route that many Gophers fans will find familiar. It was a milestone TD for his quarterback as well as Tom Brady overtook Drew Brees for the NFL career touchdown pass record...for the time being.

Carter Coughlin-LB-New York Giants

Week 7 @ Philadelphia Eagles (TNF)

Week 8 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers(MNF)

Coughlin returned to just special teams work in the Giants Thursday night football loss to the Eagles and did not record any stats. Hopefully he can earn some ESPN air time next Monday against Winfield and Johnson and the Bucs.

Kamal Martin-LB-Green Bay Packers

Week 7 @ Houston Texans

Week 8 vs Minnesota Vikings

Welcome to the NFL Kamal Martin. He played just 29 defensive snaps but showed why the Packers were so high on him at the start of the season before his knee injury. He started at linebacker and led the Packers with six tackles including one for loss shown below:

He now gets his hometown Minnesota Vikings in his Lambeau Field debut on Sunday.
