Minnesota Basketball: NCAA approves transfer waiver for Both Gach

Gopher basketball gets more good news with Both Gach’s transfer waiver approved

NCAA Basketball: Kentucky at Utah Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Both Gach is an Austin native who, after attending prep school in Arizona, committed to play basketball for the Utah Utes. After a successful sophomore season, Gach decided to transfer and he chose Minnesota as his destination.

He, like Liam Robbins, had his transfer waiver approved, giving the Gophers another talented player at their disposal for the 2020-21 season.

Gach started 25 games last year for the Utes. He averaged 10.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Early in the 2019-20 season Gach recorded a triple-double. But the 6’6” forward is likely to replace Peyton Willis in the starting lineup. He will certainly bring athleticism and length to the position, though is not a great shooter from three.

Most likely Gach moves into the starting role vacated by Peyton Willis. If not starting, he will be a key contributor off the bench.

This is also very good news for Richard Pitino’s program. More to come on the outlook of the 2020-21 team, but this completes the roster for this upcoming season. We know the names who are eligible to play and this should be one of the deepest teams Pitino has had.
