Full disclosure: I have no idea how this bowl season is going to work.
Back in October, the NCAA waived all win requirements for bowl eligibility, opening the door for literally any program with enough players to field a team. But programs like Boston College, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Stanford have pre-emptively declined a bowl invite, citing the difficult nature of this season and the toll it has taken on their players.
On top of that, nearly a dozen bowl games — including three with Big Ten ties — have already cancelled. The Frisco Bowl being the most recent example, having already lined up SMU and UTSA before the Mustangs were forced to bow out due to COVID-19 issues.
Then came the news this week that the NCAA Football Oversight Committee would allow FBS programs to schedule a replacement game if their bowl game is canceled, as long as the opponent’s conference has an affiliation with said bowl.
What a mess, right?
Anyway, here are where the Minnesota Golden Gophers could end up according to the bowl game prognosticators of the internet:
